We are in the beautiful Orosi Valley, about 40 km SE of San Jose, Costa Rica. If you have Google Earth, the coordinates are 9.80673 North,
-83.86602 West. (The present Google photo has a cloud directly above, and obscuring, the bar.) We are about 3500 ft. above sea level. Daily high temps are around 78 degrees F, lows about 65 degrees, year round!
We offer a full menu of freshly prepared and delicious food, as well as cocktails, wine, and beer. This is an ideal stop on your mountain tour! Drop in for lunch or dinner. We also offer Karaoke and live music on selected evenings.
Directions to the bar: From San Jose, follow the road to Cartago, and from Cartago, to Paraiso. Then take the road from Paraiso to Orosi. (It will be a right turn at the park in the center of Paraiso.) After you travel 6km or so, the road will bring you down the side of a mountain into the Orosi Valley. As you approach the valley, you will cross a river (Rio Agua Caliente) via a metal bridge, painted dark grey. The bar is immediately on your right. The signage says BBB El Ranchito.
If you were to follow the road to the left, you would find the town of Orosi, about 3 km away. Orosi is a beautiful village, and is home to the oldest (Catholic) church still in use in Costa Rica. It was built around 1650! Cachi Lake and Hydroelectric dam, and the spectacular Tapanti National Park are also nearby. Over 150 rivers begin their journey to the sea from this valley! And, the Irazu Volcano and park is only 36 km NE from us. You will travel through some beautiful countryside on your way there. You can find more information here: www.costarica.com.
If you follow the road to the right for about 2 km, you would arrive at Hotel Rio Perlas Spa and Resort. There are few mountain resorts in the country with such fine accommodations and friendly staff, with very reasonable pricing. Rio Perlas is an ideal base for day trips in the area, and since it is situated on 450 natural acres, it is a destination in itself! The (Google Earth) coordinates are 9.800562 N, -83.886805 W. You can see the resort with its orange rooftops, as well as the natural thermal pond and world class spa. You can find more information at about Hotel Rio Perlas at rioperlasspaandresort.com
The Orosi Valley is one of the most beautiful and unspoiled areas in Costa Rica. It is a center of coffee plantations and farms, and there is no overdevelopment. If you want to experience Costa Rica without hype, this is the area to start. The countryside is beautiful, with mountains, valleys, plenty of rivers, and the people are incredibly friendly.
